Our founder is, before anything else, a traveler. Born in China, he spent years crossing his own country — the mist-wrapped karst peaks of Guilin, the Silk Road sands of Dunhuang, the tea terraces of Yunnan, the imperial heart of Beijing. He fell for it the way you only can with a place you have truly walked.

Then, on a trip to Malaysia, the same thing kept happening. Everywhere he went he met European travelers, and again and again the conversation turned to China. They were curious — captivated, even. But they felt locked out: no channel they trusted, no prices they believed, and a quiet fear that going there meant stepping into the unknown. Worse, much of what they thought they knew about China had reached them secondhand, through a lens that was never quite fair.

It stayed with him long after he flew home. The China he knew — generous, breathtaking, endlessly varied — was simply not the China these travelers were afraid of. The gap was never the country. It was the way the country had been sold to them.

So he built this studio for a single purpose: to carry the real China across that gap. To give travelers from everywhere an honest, trustworthy, beautifully made way in — and to let the world meet China again, on its own terms.
